Brilliant Bendon bowls seconds to victory

Dan Bendon claimed 5-29 to help Northants secure 125-run victory over Minor Counties Under-25s in the Second XI Trophy at the County Ground.

Leg-spinner Bendon and seamer Lee Daggett (3-39) dismissed the visitors for 144 in reply to the County’s solid 269-5 in 50 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Paul Harrison (103) and Rob Newton (66) provided the bulk of the runs, adding 113 for the second wicket, before Steven Crook weighed in with an unbeaten 35.

Northamptonshire suffered a comprehensive defeat in their Second XI Trophy match against Essex at the County Ground on Monday.

Dismissed for only 115 in 37 overs with no-one reaching 20, the County saw the visitors knock off the runs at 11-4 with more than 23 overs to spare.

Steven Crook, Jack Brooks, Dan Bendon and Graeme White picked up a wicket apiece.

The side will hope for better things against the Minor Counties Under-25s, also at Wantage Road, on Tuesday.
