Samuels, Simmons in new-look Windies T20 squad
The WICB Selection Committee on Wednesday named the squad for the Digicel T20 International against Pakistan at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia on Thursday, April 21.
The squad features several uncapped players at the international level. They have been selected based on performances in the Caribbean T20 Tournaments in 2010 and earlier this year. </p

Bridgetown, Barbados – Members of the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre are among the top performers for their team in this year’s WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament.
The players all said they were generally satisfied with their performances in the tournament and indicated the work done on and off the field in the first year at the Sagicor HPC helped immensely. Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul was the leading bowler for Guyana. He ended the season with 25 wickets at an average of 18.8. His best figures were 6-39 against Combined Campuses & Colleges.

West Indies cricket coach, Ottis Gibson, who has publicly berated the senior players on the team, has reiterated his stance that all of them are at risk of being dropped.
He constantly engages in threats and whisper campaigns to the media against these senior players. Combined Campuses and Colleges stormed into the WICB Regional Four Day competition final yesterday with a 'stunning victory' over the Windward Islands. The Windwards were bowled out for 128 before the close of play on the third day, as Ryan Austin and Kavesh Kantasingh took five and four wickets respectively.
Meanwhile, in what the Trinidad Express describes as "Mission Impossible", Trinidad and Tobago battle to reach Jamaica's first innings total of 664. At close of play they were 198 for 4. It appears that under the competition rules if there is no result in this game and no first innings points are gained, Jamaica will go through to the final on the basis on head-to-head results earlier in the competition.

Afridi to miss West Indies tour
Pakistan's World Cup captain, Shahid Afridi, has withdrawn from the country's tour to the West Indies.
A Pakistan Cricket Board source said the 31-year-old all-rounder had made himself unavailable for the tour, which starts on 18 April. "He will not be going to West Indies as apparently he wants to take a break from the game," said the source before adding that the player had spoken to the chairman of the PCB and explained he was not in the right frame of mind to go to the Caribbean.Afridi quit Test cricket last year but had been expected to play in the one-day and Twenty20 matches against West Indies.Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup when they lost by 29 runs to India in the semi-finals on Wednesday.The flamboyant Afridi has appeared in 320 one-dayers, 27 Tests and 42 Twenty20 internationals for his country. WIPA ‘strongly condemns’ bus attack
The West Indies Players Association has issued a statement condemning the attacks on the West Indies players' bus in Bangladesh by outraged local fans.
WIPA President and CEO, Dinanath Ramnarine stated that "it is regrettable what transpired in Bangladesh; thankfully none of our players are hurt. The potential for terrible incidents like this one today is why we insist that the standards agreed for regional and international matches must be continuously assessed and must be met at all times as it relates to the security of our players and other related matters."
Ramnarine said "we just cannot wait for something more serious to happen to pay attention to the issue of security, we need to be proactive".

The West Indies crept closer to a quarterfinal berth by defeating Bangladesh by 9 wickets today. Led by Captain Darren Sammy with 4 wickets, and well supported by Kemar Roach, and S Benn, 3 each, the West Indies bowled out Bangladesh, who batted first, for just 58 runs. In reply, Chris Gayle hit 37 not out, taking him past 8000 ODI runs as the West Indies made the runs for only the loss of Devon Smith's wicket.

Bangladeshi cricket fans threw stones at the West Indies' bus today, breaking windows. Upset by the crushing defeat inflicted on Bangladesh by the West Indies in Dhaka, some fans vented their anger on the team bus.

Following the injury to Dwayne Bravo, Chairman of the West Indies Selection Committee Clyde Butts held discussions with Marlon Samuels about possible nomination to replace Bravo. After discussions Butts and Samuels agreed that he would be better served continuing to play in the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament as he continues his return following a two year absence from the game.
Capricious West Indies destroy Netherlands
A different West Indies team turned up for their match against the Dutch, and totally dominated them in a 215 run victory. A subdued 80 by Chris Gayle, and a torrid 60 off 27 balls by K Pollard, supported by a half century by Devon Smith, set the dutch a target of 331. A first over wicket by Roach, followed by another in the ninth, and three wickets in 3 overs by Benn, including the dangerous R N ten Doeschate, left the Dutch reeling at 36 for 5 after 10 overs.
A 57 run partnership between Cooper and Burkhari delayed the inevitable, but Kemar Roach closed out the Dutch with a hat trick to end with 6 wickets.
The large margin of victory moved the West Indies to a NRR of +1.879, the highest in the group.

Trinidad pulled to within 3 points of Leader Jamaica with a come from behind victory over the Windwards Islands, as England Lions could only manage first innings points against a determined CCC team.
A drawn match between Barbados and Guyana reduced both teams prospects of making the play-offs, with three matches to go. The tournament resumes on March 11.

Victories by Combined Campuses and Windward Islands moved them up the tables in the top five as round three wound down today. The victory by Combined Campuses moved them into a tie at the top of the table.
Both Jamaica and England Lions gained first innings points in their drawn matches with Barbados and Trinidad respectively, while Trinidad fell to fourth place, 2 points ahead of Windwards Islands.
Barbados gained 3 points, while Guyana and Leewards went home empty-handed.

Guyana's batting crumbled the Windward Island bowling, setting Windwards only 58 runs for victory. The Windward batting also struggled losing 6 wickets on their way to victory.
The Combined Campuses are poised to gain full points, as they have Leewards Islands on the ropes at 75 for 5, chasing a Target of 370.
In Barbados, Jerome Taylor led the Jamaican team to first innings point with a 5 for 69 haul, as the Barbados tail collapsed in much the same way as the Jamaican side did. Jamaica has a lead of 116 runs with 8 wickets in hand, Marlon Samuels 58, and Wavell Hinds 2, will start the day for Jamaica.
England, with a lead of 227 and 6 wickets in hand, will be looking for quick runs in order to force a decision today.

The West Indies Cricket Board has received confirmation from the International Cricket Council that its Technical Committee has approved Kirk Edwards and Devon Thomas replacing the injured duo of Adrian Barath and Carlton Baugh.

A severely rain affected round two of the West Indies Regional Tournament ended today with full points awarded in only one match. Trinidad defeated CCC by 2 wickets in an exciting finish. Veteran Captain Darren Ganga lead the Trinidad chase with a disciplined 85 not out.
The high scoring Barbados/England game ended in a tame draw, with three batsmen scoring centuries. The Jamaica/Windward match also ended in a draw with rain again playing a part, as only a few hours of play was possible on the last day.
With round two of the Regional tournament completed, Trinidad now joins Jamaica and England Lions at the top of the tables, with 18 points from two games, followed by Combined Campuses with 12.
