Morkel double rocks Bangladesh

South Africa’s all-seam attack picked up three wickets on the first morning of the second Test against Bangladesh at Centurion. The visitors, who were comprehensively outplayed in the first Test last week, were nicely placed after an hour-and-a-hafl, and were it not for losing two wickets 20 minutes before lunch to Morne Morkel, Bangladesh might have taken the morning honours.

‘We could not apply ourselves properly’ – Ashraful

Not for the first time in his career, Mohammad Ashraful has blamed another defeat on Bangladesh’s inability to cope with pace . Bangladesh crashed to an innings-and-29-run loss in the first Test against South Africa in Bloemfontein, following which Ashraful criticised the batsmen’s failure to apply themselves.

Steyn five-for inspires crushing SA win

At least it was relatively quick and painless. South Africa’s pace attack demonstrated the vast gap in class, picking off Bangladesh’s batsmen like skittles in an alley to complete a comprehensive innings-and-129-run victory in the first Test in Bloemfontein. Makhaya Ntini led the attack with great aggression and control while Dale Steyn, upon whom so much rests for South Africa’s future firepower, cranked up the pace with his ninth five-wicket haul.

Bangladesh crumble to South Africa’s pace

At a time when Test cricket is fighting to maintain its credibility and relevance it needs some cracking matches to maintain interest. Brisbane may yet provide a tonic, Bloemfontein certainly won’t. Bangladesh, after improving with the ball, were predictably blown away for 153 by South Africa’s pace attack and were are one down in the follow-on.

Ashraful upbeat after drawn warm-up game

Mohammad Ashraful expects the pitches for the two Tests against South Africa to be similar to the one in Bangladesh’s warm-up match in Kimberley. Bangladesh drew their two-day game with the South African Airways Challenge XI but Ashraful was happy that some of the top-order batsmen were among the runs and his bowlers bowled out the hosts in two sessions.

Raqibul and Kayes earn Test call-ups

Batsmen Raqibul Hasan and Imrul Kayes have earned call-ups to the Bangladesh Test squad after the selectors chose to retain the one-day squad that played South Africa for the two Tests against the same opposition starting November 19 in Bloemfontein. Fast bowler Nazmul Hossain made a return to the squad four years after playing his only Test against India in Chittagong.

South Africa ease past Bangladesh

Mohammad Ashraful and Tamim Iqbal gave Bangladesh genuine cause for hope, but South Africa’s greater experience eventually told in the tour-opening Twenty20 in Johannesburg. In a match restricted to 14 overs by an electrical thunderstorm, Bangladesh were given a confident start in pursuit of a Duckworth-Lewis-revised 122, before imploding as the pressure began to toll.
